Tenaris will award university scholarships to graduating high school seniors of Matagorda County for the tenth consecutive year. Applicants must be members of the class of 2023 from Bay City, Palacios, Tidehaven, Van Vleck, or Matagorda high schools.
Tenaris will award university scholarships to graduating high school seniors of Matagorda County for the tenth consecutive year. Applicants must be members of the class of 2023 from Bay City, Palacios, Tidehaven, Van Vleck, or Matagorda high schools.
All graduating seniors who apply will be eligible for the $60,000 Tenaris Student of the Year scholarship, regardless of their planned major. Each year the scholarship recipient is enrolled as an undergraduate, Tenaris will award the student with a scholarship not to exceed $15,000. Four runners-up for the Tenaris Student of the Year will receive $3,000 each.
Graduating seniors who plan to pursue a STEM degree (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), will also be considered for the $20,000 Tenaris Merit Award Scholarship. Six recipients will be selected and receive the scholarship in increments of $5,000 each year over the course of four years. Examples of STEM majors include: Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Civil Engineering, Computer Programming, Environmental Studies, Nuclear Engineering, Petroleum Technology, Marine Science, Electrical Engineering, Biology, Aerospace Engineering, Biochemistry, Physics, Computer Science, and more. Four runners-up for Merit Award will receive $1,000 each.
In order to be eligible for the above scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria and requirements:
- Be a 2023 graduating high school senior from Bay City, Palacios, Tidehaven, Van Vleck, or Matagorda high schools and entering college in the fall of 2023.
- Have a GPA of a 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Complete the application, which concentrates on education, involvement and accomplishments in and out of the classroom.
- Include an essay of no more than 500 words on the topic included in the application.
- Provide two letters of recommendation — one letter from a person in the community of no relation to you and another from a school official such as a teacher, counselor, principal, coach, organization sponsor, etc.
- Provide a copy of your official transcript showing proof of your GPA.
- Provide SAT and/or ACT scores (optional).
- Major in a STEM career (only for Merit Award applicants)
- If you have one, please provide a copy of your résumé that includes any work history and/or community involvement.
- Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee.
- Following the application review process, applicants advancing to the next stage of the selection process will be contacted to schedule an interview with the selection committee.
- Those not advancing will be notified. Interviews will take place in late March/early April.
- The winner of the Roberto Rocca Tenaris Student of the Year candidates will receive a $60,000 scholarship, and four runners-up will each receive a $3,000 towards their education.
- Six students will be selected to win a $20,000 Tenaris Merit Award Scholarship, and four runners-up will each receive a $1,000 towards their education.
- All scholarship recipients will be recognized at a Tenaris ceremony (date to be determined) where the individual scholarship awards will be announced.
- Tenaris will pay all scholarship funds directly to the college or university of the scholarship recipient.
