Roberto Rocca Technical Gene
The second edition of Roberto Rocca Technical Gene concludes with great results in Zalău, Romania
A total of 44 students from two technical schools in Zalău completed the second edition of the Roberto Rocca Technical Gene program—and 15 have applied for summer internships at the TenarisSilcotub plant.
At the end of June, 44 11th-grade students from the Alesandru Papiu Ilarian y Mihai Viteazu technical schools in Zalău, Romania, completed the 23/24 edition of the Roberto Rocca Technical Gene program, an initiative which notched an attendance rating of 70%.
The program is designed to offer participants a fresh perspective on Math and Physics while introducing them to two subjects not typically covered in the Romanian curriculum: health & safety, and environmental care.
Using the Project-Based Learning methodology and peer learning, students engage in hands-on activities that bridge the gap between theory and practice. Through various applications and experiments, they gain the opportunity to connect the theoretical concepts of Math and Physics to real-life situations, making their learning experience more relevant and impactful.
For eight months, students received 24 practical workshops in Math (48 hours), another 24 practical workshops in Physics (48 hours), and were able to take part in six practical workshops on Health & Safety awareness (basic knowledge) and six workshops on Environmental care and preservation.
This 2nd edition of the Roberto Rocca Technical Program concluded with a highly unusual ceremony: the students devised Escape Rooms as their end-of-year challenge, using the Math and Physics they’d learned over the year.
The students flourished alongside their peers and teachers who guided them throughout the process. Flavia Mastan, a student of Mechanics at the Alesandru Papiu Ilarian technical school, said:
What really stood out for me was the amazing atmosphere and how the teachers showed us things we don’t usually learn in school. It’s so useful to pick up new skills that help not just in class, but in everyday life, too!"
While Mădălina Debre, a student of Mechanics from the same school, said: “The program really pushes me in the best way! Every activity expands my understanding of the technical world, and there’s always something new to learn from each teacher and workshop. I walk away from every class with fresh insights and knowledge to take home.”
